Why Early Diagnosis Changed Everything for One Lagos Family

When Temi Adesanya first noticed that her son, Kolade, wasn't responding to his name at 18 months, the paediatrician said: "Boys are slower. Give it time."

For the next two years, Temi gave it time. She gave it all the time she had, watching Kolade struggle in playgroup, retreat into routines, and grow increasingly distressed in unfamiliar environments. The turning point came at age 4 — when Lumina finally gave the family a name for what they were seeing.

"Before the diagnosis, we were fighting in the dark. Afterwards, every single thing about Kolade made sense. It wasn't a label — it was a light."

— Temi A., parent of Kolade, now aged 8

Common Questions

Everything you need to know before booking.

Still have questions? We're happy to speak with you before your first appointment. No obligation.

Contact our team →
What age range does Lumina serve?
+
We specialise in children aged 3 to 10 years. This window is widely recognised as the most impactful period for early intervention. If your child is slightly outside this range, please get in touch and we'll advise on the most appropriate next step.
How long does an assessment take?
+
A full ADHD or ASD assessment typically spans two to three sessions over one to two weeks. This includes direct child evaluation, parent interviews, and review of school reports. A written report is provided within 10 working days of the final session.
Do you offer virtual appointments?
+
Yes. Parent consultations, feedback sessions, and post-diagnostic support are available virtually. Initial assessment components that require direct child observation must be conducted in person at our Lagos center.
Will my child's school accept your reports?
+
Our diagnostic reports are prepared to the standards expected by Nigerian schools, international schools, and healthcare providers. They include practical recommendations for classroom accommodations and learning support plans.
What if I'm not sure my child needs an assessment?
+
We offer a free 20-minute initial phone consultation for parents who are unsure. This call helps us understand your concerns and advise whether a formal assessment is the right next step — without any obligation to proceed.
How do I prepare my child for their first session?
+
Keep it simple and honest — tell your child they're going to meet some people who help children understand how their brain works. Avoid over-explaining. Our clinicians are skilled at putting children at ease from the very first minute.
Is a diagnosis permanent? Can it be changed?
+
A diagnosis reflects a child's current profile based on thorough clinical evidence. As children grow and change, presentations can evolve. We recommend a reassessment every 3–5 years or when significant changes in behaviour or development occur. We're always available to discuss updated profiles.
Do you offer payment plans?
+
Yes. We believe financial constraints should not prevent a child from getting the support they need. We offer flexible payment plans for assessment packages, and therapy block bookings come with a discount. Speak to our admin team to discuss options.
